The Early Renaissance Art in Florence - 1597 Words

The early Renaissance art in Florence focused on an elaborate, Gothic style of painting; very formal and traditional, yet there was always something that seemed to be lacking. Perspective and depth were two very important qualities in painting, yet up until the time of young Masaccio, (born Tommaso Guidi), paintings were beautiful, but seemed to just be art that hung on the wall. In Masaccio’s work, â€Å"rather than recede in space, the figures seem to come forward† (Cole 120). He may not have known it at the time, but his style of painting would influence many painters well after his death; Donatello, Michelangelo, and so on. Masaccio may have only painted for a total of 8 years, but during those 8 years he revolutionized not only the†¦show more content†¦It has undergone many repairs, and has been to many places, so it can sometimes be hard to really see past all of the new and really see what Masaccio created. Yet, really looking past what has been cha nged, a viewer can really see Masaccio’s talent: â€Å"Masaccios perspective design of the vault was created within the surface geometry. The foreshortened pattern of coffers could be calculated using simple geometry† (Polzer 1). Masaccio was not just an artist, but also used basic math and geometry skills to really create that realism in his works. This shows that he was also very intellectual as well as creative, and became part of another era of painting that used skills such as geometry, and not just creativity, in creating art. The Holy Trinity truly creates the illusion of Christ being crucified right in that archway, and that the viewers could just walk right in and become a part of the painting. As James Ackerman says, â€Å"the magnificent vault arching over the austere figures in Masaccio’s fresco [is] an utterly convincing illusion of architectural form extending into space† (Achkerman 171). People classified as psychotic have a disease that is in the category for the most severe forms of mental illnesses. These diseases include schitzophrenia and manic depression. These diseases are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes delusions, halucinations, and apathy. Schitzophrenia can be found in three forms: paranoid, catatonic, and undifferentiated. People with manic depression have complete changes in personality. The changes are complete opposites which is why the disease is also referred to as bi-polar disease. Both of these diseases are treatable but, can be Psychopaths however do not have a disease. Their problem comes from abuse which does not cause diseases in the category of psychotic. The people that are labeled as psychopaths have a flaw in their character. The flaw is that they are unable to feel emotion s. These people have been abused so much that they can not feel remorse. People that are psychopaths are very good liers and can fake that they care but, they are unable to. They lack a conscience. These people are symbolically seeking revenge for what was done to them when they were children. The overall difference between psychotics and psychopaths is that psychopaths problems come from abuse and psychotics problems do not.
